Flatpack is a sustainable Eco, Smart e-bike concept. The astronomical growth of E-commerce and the rising trend of bicycles being used as a means of mobility in urban developing countries, inspired us to design a product that is built around the concept of modularity and affordability. The whole modular bicycle can be flat-packed into a compact box which can be shipped to a person who can easily put it together. The design was also aimed at promoting the bicycle as a social necessity and a form of self-expression.
The growing need for user friendly and economical, mobility solution led to Flatpack’s conceptualization.
Flatpack moves away from the single metal welded frame to modular, eco-molded paper pulp frames that is sourced from recycled global paper waste. This biodegradable unit is not just ecologically responsible, but also allows for low tooling cost and creates affordable design for all types of users, especially in developing countries. The inbuilt smart screen syncs with the user’s smartphone to display vital ambient data that help prevent the user from being distracted during urban commutes. Nylon straps fitted along the cycle’s frame create a safe and secure storage place for urban suspended loads like backpacks, carry bags etc. On the same lines, a front mounted carrier with nylon straps is ideal to place loads securely on a stable surface. The headlights and taillights are also modular units that be used interchangeably and also detached to be used as flashlights. The paper pulp frame is deliberately left blank and plain white to act it into a canvas for self-expressions- from art to urban camo, to kids’ sketches, all one needs is a bunch of crayons and sharpies, and no two Flatpacks would ever look the same.
